Feng Shui Interior Design

When most people think of interior design, they think of the colors they want in their home, what kind of furniture to buy and where to place small items that add charm or flavor to a room. For some people, these considerations are important. However, feng shui interior design requires a different perspective. Feng shui focuses not only on what is aesthetically pleasing, but how the items in a room or home work together to represent elements such as fire, water, wood, earth and metal as well encourage the flow of "chi" (or energy). This article will give you a few ideas on how to use design your home to be consistent with the practice of feng shui.

Getting Rid Of Clutter
One of the primary tenets of feng shui is using plenty of open space to allow the flow of "chi." Because of this, clutter is the enemy of feng shui design. Pay special attention to clutter that accumulates by doorways since these passages should be left clear for energy flow. You may even want to do some spring cleaning and get rid of things for which you have no use. Useless items that take of space needlessly prohibit the flow of "chi" and drain energy from a room. Getting rid of the clutter in your home is the first step toward creating a harmonious living space.

Allowing Plenty Of Light
Natural light is one of the most powerful ways for "chi" to manifest. Therefore, make sure you allow for light to easily enter the rooms of your home. Artificial light, including fluorescent lighting is not enough. Natural light from the sun and can not only stimulate your skin cells and brain, but also the "chi" that already exists in your home. Plan the design of each room to allow lots of natural light to enter.

Furniture Placement
When you're deciding how and where to place your furniture (including your couch, chairs, coffee table, plants, end tables, etc.), keep in mind the importance of energy flow in your home. Try to open up space. Not only does this allow for the "chi" in your home to flow easily through every room but it also creates a relaxing atmosphere. Also, try to set your couch with the back to a wall. That way, the back of your couch won't face the doorway (feng shui faux pas enthusiasts frown upon).

Using Ornaments To Represent The Elements
An important part of feng shui interior design is representing the elements within your home. For water, you could have a quiet, trickling interior waterfall. Light candles to represent fire and place a small rock garden on an end table to represent earth. These things are easy to do and take very little time while creating a feng shui environment.

Feng shui interior design is easy to do but requires a bit of planning. The important keys to designing a home consistent with feng shui practices are to remove as much clutter as possible, use a lot of open space and natural lighting and use small items to represent the various elements throughout your rooms. You'll find that your feng shui home is both relaxing and filled with a natural energy that soothes you.

Feng Shui Tip #4

Surround yourself with positive graphics or imagery that promote love or romance. Such images of a budding romance can influence your state of mind and make you more susceptible to love or romance as well as enrich your perspective of love.

Feng Shui Tip #5

The doors to your bedroom and house must open freely and easily without any squeaks or obstructions. If not, that could represent an obstruction to you finding love or improving your love life. Feng shui tips focusing on love may be taken seriously or scoffed at but they actually do not cost anything so you will lose nothing from putting them into action.

Feng Shui Tip #6

Remove any shoes or slippers lying outside the main door of your house. This will allow that space at the main door to be free and clear. The qi can then flow with the wind without bringing in the smells of those shoes and slippers into your house causing sickness.
